Gian Piero Spicci (Caracas, Venezuela) completed three academic years in Systems Engineering at Universidad Metropolitana in his hometown and transferred to Florida International University in January of 2012, completing his undergraduate studies Magna Cum Laude in 2014 with a B.S. in Computer Science. As leader of his undergraduate Senior Project team, Gian developed a data mining tool, the Venture Hive Regional Miner, designed to help startup incubators identify the key elements shared by successful startup companies. Before enrolling in the Masters in Human-Computer Interaction (MHCI) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and the Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute (M-ITI), Gian worked with a team to develop an online platform for Smartinvest Capital LLC, a financial consulting firm expanding into the world of alternative investment.
In light of his experience with developing user-friendly data mining software and web applications, which involved turning complex processes understandable for users, Gian decided to enroll in CMU’s MHCI program in order to deepen his theoretical and practical formation in user-centered computer science and design. This formation will enable Gian to keep superior user experience as a unifying goal of each software development project in which he takes part.
